Man alleges negligence after surgeries

CHICAGO – A man has filed a suit claiming he still has a limited range of motion in his leg from negligent surgeries he had as a minor.

Timothy Bellas filed a complaint on May 27 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Edward Abraham, Orthofix International, N.V., Xcell Orthopedics of Chicago Corp., and Orthofix SRL alleging negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that between 2009 and 2011, he suffered physical injuries as a result of a failed surgeries and medical implants to correct a limb length discrepancy in his right leg. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly evaluate plaintiff's condition and provide the most effective treatment needed while defendant Orthofix manufactured and distributed medical implants that had no warnings for the potential harm it could cause to patients.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount of more than $50,000 and any further relief this court sees fit. He is represented by James A. Karamanis of Barney & Karamanis, LLP in Chicago.
