Patient blames health provider, staff for burns to her face

CHICAGO — A Lynwood woman is suing a Hazel Crest health facility, alleging negligence caused burns to her face.

Debra Smith filed a lawsuit May 27 in Cook County Circuit Court against Advocate Health and Hospitals Corp., doing business as  Advocate South Suburban Hospital, Advocate South Suburban Sleep Center, Tinley Park Sleep Center LLC and Dr. Robert Aronson, alleging negligence in failing to provide proper medical supervision and failure to prevent injuries. 

According to the complaint, on May 29, 2014, Smith sustained burns and lacerations as a result of the face mask affixed on her during a sleep study at Advocate South Suburban. The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to provide competent and well- trained staff to closely supervise Smith while she was undergoing a procedure.

Smith seeks of more than $50,000 from each defendant, plus court costs. She is represented by attorney James F. Coyne of Coyne Reinke Law in Chicago.
