Minor, mother files suit against medical health providers alleging neurologic injuries

Medical malpractice 05

CHICAGO – A minor and her mother have filed suit against two medical centers and several doctors alleging that they failed to provide adequate care during birth, causing injuries.

Davojn Howleit, a minor, by her mother and next friend Lawanda Howleit, and Lawanda Howleit, filed a complaint on May 27 in the Cook County Circuit Court against The Ingalls Memorial Hospital and The University of Chicago Medical Center and Dr. Ernest Hayes; Dr. Danish Ahmed; Dr. Sukhchain Singh, Dr. Paul Ngumi and Dr. Sarosh Rana alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Aug. 1, 2015, Davojn Howleit sustained permanent and irreversible brain damaged upon her birth. The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to monitor Davojn Howleit during labor and allegedly failed to offer or and perform a cesarean delivery which could have prevented Davojn Howleit's brain injuries.

The plaintiffs seek judgment against the defendants in an amount in excess of $50,000 plus interest and court costs. They are represented by David G. Pribyl of Dudley & Lake LLC in Libertyville.
