Cancer patient sues over care

Medical malpractice 04

CHICAGO — A woman is suing Merlin Kelsick, M.D., and Advent Medical Corp., alleging negligence and insufficient measures taken to prevent injuries.

Sandra Williams filed a complaint on June 20 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that they failed to provide her with proper medical care.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in September 2012, she was diagnosed with cancer and underwent a mastectomy of her left breast, and after the procedure she was informed that all of the cancer had been removed. In July 2014 she was informed that her cancer has returned and metastasized into her lungs, the suit says. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to evaluate the plaintiff's condition after the mastectomy.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount in excess of $50,000 plus court costs. She is represented by Megan O'Connor of The Deratany Firm in Chicago.
