Mother claims baby was improperly discharged from care

Medical malpractice 04

CHICAGO — A mother is suing Advocate Health and Hospitals Corporation d/b/a Advocate Trinity Hospital, Susan Gonya, R.N., Lisa Daniel, M.D., Byron Velander, M.D., and Esther Speer, M.D., alleging negligence and insufficient measures taken to prevent injuries.

Maria D. Ponce, as mother and next friend of Natalia Ponce, a minor, filed a complaint on June 21 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants alleging that they failed to provide proper medical care to Natalia Ponce.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 22, 2008, Natalia sustained severe and permanent injuries when she was improperly discharged from care. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to properly evaluate Natalia's overall health before discharging her and did not properly educate Maria Ponce on how to properly care for her baby.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount in excess of this court's jurisdictional requisite, damages and loses. She is represented by Michael S. Shinsky and Erin R. Doyle of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz in Chicago.
