Woman says sponges weren't removed during surgery

Medical malpractice 07

CHICAGO — A patient is suing Richard Belch, M.D., Advocate Christ Medical Center and Advocate Medical Group, alleging negligence and insufficient measures taken to prevent injuries.

Kimberly Rule filed a complaint on June 22 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that they failed to provide proper medical care to the plaintiff.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in June 2014, she experienced pain from having an infection after surgery. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly performed surgery on the plaintiff but failed to remove two laparotomy sponges.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount in excess of $50,000. She is represented by Edward G. Proctor Jr. of Munday & Nathan in Chicago.
