CHICAGO — A man is suing Calumet City, citing alleged battery at the hands of police.

Martinez Hollingsworth filed a complaint on Aug. 17 in Cook County Circuit Court against the City of Calumet City, alleging that city police used excessive force in questioning him.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 5, he sustained physical injuries including cuts, bruises and the loss of several teeth. The plaintiff holds the City of Calumet City responsible because the defendant's police officers allegedly accused him of standing in the middle of the street and possessing illegal drugs, then battered him.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount greater than $50,000 plus court costs. He is represented by Jeffrey S. Deutschman and Bradley A. Skafish of Deutschman & Associates, P.C. in Chicago.
