Riffner Firm, others accused of poor legal representation

CHICAGO — Two Illinois real estate companies and an individual are suing Robert Riffner; Scott Barber; Riffner, Barber, LLC; The Riffnew Firm, PC; and John M. Driscoll, law firms and lawyers, citing alleged negligence.

Apartment Investors VIII, LP,; Governors Station Limited Partnership and Lawrence Irwin filed a complaint on Aug. 5, in the Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants alleging that they failed to properly defend the plaintiffs in two separate foreclosure proceedings.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that Apartment Investors VIII, LP,; Governors Station Limited Partnership and Lawrence Irwin suffered monetary damages and loss of property. The plaintiffs hold Robert Riffner; Scott Barber; Riffner, Barber, LLC; The Riffnew Firm, PC; and John M. Driscoll responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to advise the plaintiff regarding other more advantageous alternatives to effectively defend the foreclosure cases.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendant in an amount greater than $50,000 plus court costs and any further relief this court grants. They are represented by Michael C. Bruck and Megan A. Zmick of Williams Montgomery & John Ltd. in Chicago.
