Ultra Foods, others accused of negligence in connection with slip, fall

Slip01

CHICAGO — A woman is suing over an alleged fall in a store.

Cheryl Burchett  is suing SVT LLC d/b/a Ultra Foods, Central Grocers Inc. and Raceway Central Chicago Heights LLC, alleging negligence, liability and insufficient measures taken to prevent injuries.

Burchett filed a complaint on July 22 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that they failed to properly maintain the safety of their premises by keeping their floor free of any liquid that could cause an injury.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on July 25, 2014, she sustained physical injuries when she fell on a wet rug. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to clean or remove wet rugs in the produce area of their property or to make sure that water did not accumulate in a way that would make the rugs unsafe.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000 plus court costs. She is represented by Marc Trevino of Briones, Harvey & Trevino, of Homewood.
