CHICAGO — A pastor is suing three former church board members, alleging tortious interference and unjust enrichment.
The Rev. David McCloud, on behalf of Baptist Church Without a Spot or Wrinkle, filed a complaint on Sept. 16 in Cook County Circuit Court against Robert Simpson, Gerald Odom and Bonzell Merritt, alleging that they attempted to control the church's finances in response to being voted off the church's board.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he suffered damages on behalf of the church. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly took steps to interfere with the church's finances, including failing to pay utility bills and collecting insurance proceeds for their own benefit.
The plaintiff seeks accounting of all funds collected, court costs and any further relief this court grants. He is represented by Lester L. Barclay and Emily C. Goldman of The Barclay Law Group, P.C. in Chicago.
