Presence Resurrection Medical Center, doctors accused of negligence in connection with death

Medical malpractice 01

CHICAGO — An administrator of a deceased woman's estate has filed a wrongful death claim against Presence Resurrection Medical Center; and doctors identified as Casey Collier, M.D. and Emily Hansen, M.D., alleging negligence in medical care.

Sarah Curcio, as special administrator of the estate of Debra Derus, filed a complaint on Oct. 27 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that they failed to provide proper medical care to Derus.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that Derus suffered from a continuous infection of her left knee joint that contributed to her death. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to properly diagnose the cause of Derus' left knee infection and apply the appropriate treatment.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000 plus court costs. She is represented by Joseph R. Curcio of Curcio Law Offices in Chicago.
