Former Chicago Park District employee alleges he was wrongfully terminated, discriminated against

CHICAGO – A Hispanic man alleges he was wrongfully terminated by the Chicago Park District.

Joseph I. Diaz filed a complaint on Oct. 31 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Chicago Park District, Chicago Park District Personnel Board and its members, alleging wrongful discharge, fraud and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was terminated in November 2007 for allegedly failing to report for a fitness evaluation and engaging in a verbal altercation with a co-worker. The plaintiff alleges that he was wrongfully terminated and treated differently due to his race.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in the amount of $500,000 plus any further relief the court grants. He is represented by Frank Avila of Avila Law Group LLC in Chicago.
