CHICAGO — Two people who were hit by police gunfire, and a representative of a man who was killed by police gunfire, have filed suit against the city of Chicago, alleging excessive force in the course of an arrest.
John W. Givens and Leland Dudley, who were shot multiple times and survived, and Bernice Strong as special administrator of the estate of David Strong, who was shot to death, filed a complaint on Nov. 1 in Cook County Circuit Court against the City of Chicago, alleging that city police used inappropriate force.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on April 30, 2012, the three men were in a van inside an electronics store when David Strong backed the van through a garage door and struck at least one police vehicle. They claim that police fired multiple gunshots at them despite their allegation that they had no guns in their possession and that the van came to a stop.
The plaintiffs seek judgment against the defendant for damages and any further relief the court grants. They are represented by Health & Health, P.C. in Naperville.
