Northwest Community Hospital, others accused of negligence in surgical case

Medical malpractice 07

CHICAGO — A married couple's lawsuit against Northwest Community Hospital; Randall Kahan, M.D.; and Intuitive Surgical Inc., alleges doctors failed to detect cancer.

Lisa Karavos and Theodore Karavos filed a complaint on Nov. 3 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that they failed to provide proper medical care to Lisa Karavos.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege Karavos suffered pain and bodily injury as a result of a minimally invasive hysterectomy that was performed before a postoperative pathology report showed that she was in fact suffering from invasive cervical cancer. The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to properly diagnose Karavos' overall health condition and provide the necessary treatment.

The plaintiffs seek judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000 plus court costs. They are represented by Theodore Woerthwein of Woerthwein & Miller in Chicago.
