CHICAGO – A former Cicero School District 99 student alleges she was sexually abused by her kindergarten teacher more than a decade ago.
Jane Doe 1 filed a complaint on Nov. 9 in Cook County Circuit Court against Woodbine Elementary School and Cicero School District 99 alleging negligent failure to report, negligent failure to supervise, negligent retention and other counts.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff was a kindergarten student at the defendant's school for the 2001-2002 school year. She alleges that she suffered damages from being sexually abused by her teacher. The suit states the teacher was arrested in 2013 for alleged misconduct with female minor students at the elementary school. The plaintiff holds Woodbine Elementary School and Cicero School District 99 responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to notify the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services of the conduct.
The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount sufficient to compensate the jurisdictional limits of this court, court costs plus any further relief this court grants. She is represented by Katherine A. Cardenas and John D. Risvold of Law Offices of Lucas and Cardenas PC in Chicago.
