Family accuses Northwestern Memorial Hospital of wrongful death

Medical malpractice 01

CHICAGO – A deceased man's family allege he died in the waiting room of Chicago hospital's emergency department because he did not receive immediate care.

Ilona McKissack Ramzan, as special administrator of the estate of Ramsey McKissack, filed a complaint on Nov. 21 in Cook County Circuit Court against Northwestern Memorial Hospital, alleging medical negligence and wrongful death.

According to the complaint, McKissack went to the defendant's emergency room on April 21, 2015, for emergency medical treatment for a sickle cell or vaso-occlusive crisis. The plaintiff holds Northwestern Memorial Hospital responsible because the defendant allegedly allowed McKissack to remain in the emergency room without getting immediate medical attention. McKissack died there on April 22, 2015.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount of more than $50,000. She is represented by Michael C. Mead of Faklis & Tallis PC in Chicago.
