Elgin pastor, church accused of sexual harassment, defamation

CHICAGO — A woman is suing United Pentecostal Church International, of Elgin, and its pastor Manfred Malagon, individually and as agent of the church, alleging defamation and sexual harassment.

Araceli Guevera filed a complaint on Dec. 15 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that she was sexually harassed in various ways by the pastor and suffered defamation.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she has suffered mentally as a result of actions for which the defendants are liable. The plaintiff alleges the pastor sexually solicited her and defamed her by allegedly calling her a "prostitute" and "witch."

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000, plus court costs. She is represented by Richard R. Gordon of Gordon Law Offices Ltd. in Chicago.
