Midwest Neoped Associates, doctor accused of not properly treating newborn's anemia

CHICAGO — A mother is suing a doctor, identified as Marcia Dawson, M.D., and Optimus Hospitalists & Pediatric Subspecialists Ltd., which does business as Midwest Neoped Associates Ltd., alleging negligence in medical care for her young daughter.

Melissa DeLuca filed a complaint on Dec. 15 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that they failed to provide proper care to her daughter at the time of her birth.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges her daughter  suffered from extreme anemia. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to provide timely transfusions and for performing care that led to brain damage.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000, plus court costs. She is represented by Edward M. Rubin of Rubin, Machado & Rosenblum, Ltd. in Chicago.
