Holy Cross Hospital, others accused of negligence in wrongful death claim

Medical malpractice 02

CHICAGO — A deceased woman's family has filed a wrongful death claim against Holy Cross Hospital; a doctor, identified as Haleyur Arun, M.D.; and medical practice Pulmonary Consultants, S.C., alleging negligence in medical care.

Michael Banasiak, as independent executor of the estate of Patricia Banasiak, filed a complaint on Dec. 22 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging they failed to provide proper medical care to Banasiak.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges in 2016 Patricia Banasiak suffered massive blood loss that led to multiple organ failure, contributing to her death. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly place a triple lumen catheter in a femoral vein, instead placing it in a femoral artery for a period covering nine days; they then allegedly removed the catheter, initiating the blood loss.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000, plus court costs. He is represented by Ted C. Jennings of Coplan & Crane, Ltd. in Oak Park.
