Mount Sinai Community Foundation, others blamed for alleged misdiagnoses of tumor that left patient blind

Medical malpractice 08

CHICAGO — A patient is suing several medical care providers, alleging she was left legally blind because of failures to reach a correct diagnosis.

Teanya Sawyer filed a complaint on Dec. 22, in the Cook County Circuit Court against Ari Rubenfeld, M.D.; Ahma Aref, M.D.; Pooja Bhat, M.D.; Aisha Traish, M.D.; Rosin Eyecare; Taylor Starnes, M.D.; The Mount Sinai Community Foundation; and Sinai Health System, which does business as Crown Ent, Opthalmology & Orthopedics, alleging that they failed to properly diagnose her condition.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she suffered serious physical injuries, including being left legally blind, after the defendants allegedly repeatedly failed to diagnose a tumor from 2012-2016.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000. She is represented by Vivian Tarver-Varnado of AMB Law Group, LLC in Chicago.
