CHICAGO — Two people are suing several medical care providers, alleging negligence in connection with a stroke that occurred during hospitalization for childbirth.

Mangani Nlandu and King Mukwalemsa filed a complaint on Dec. 29, in Cook County Circuit Court against Advocate Condell Medical Center; Advocate Condell Physician Partners, and several related corporate entities; Total Women's Healthcare LLC; Midwest Anesthesia Partners LLC; and doctors David Preskill, M.D. and Divyang R. Joshi, M.D., alleging failure to provide proper care to Nlandu when she was in the hospital to deliver a child.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege Nlandu suffered a stroke and serious physical injuries including permanent brain injury. The plaintiffs accuse the defendants of negligence, including allegations that Preskill was among the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to rule out preeclampsia, failing to obtain an ultrasound, failing to adequately treat hypertension and failing to delivery the baby in a timely fashion. The complaint alleges Joshi was among defendants responsible for failing to diagnose and treat a hypertensive crisis.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000, plus court costs. They are represented by Edward W. McNabola and Terrance M. Nofsinger of McNabola & Associates, LLC in Chicago.
