Lawsuit: Team Health, Alexian Bros. failed to properly diagnose acetaminophen poisoning, causing death

Medical malpractice 09

CHICAGO – An administrator for a woman's estate is suing her health care providers, alleging their delay in treating her acetaminophen poisoning resulted in irreparable harm to her liver, which ultimately led to her death.

Juan Carlos Munguia, individually and as independent administrator of the estate of Stephanie Zamarron, filed a wrongful death suit against Team Health L.L.C., Alexian Brothers Medical Center and Gretchen Sanford D.O., on Jan. 5, in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging they failed to properly evaluate Zamarron's condition.

The suit claims the defendants failed to recognize the symptoms of acetaminophen poisoning when Zamarron was seen by them on April 7, 2016  and failed to timely order the antidote for the drug. As a result, the plaintiff claims Zamarron suffered unnecessary pain and suffering that led to her death on April 11, 2016.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount greater than $50,000. He is represented by Frank C. Marino of Marino & Simonetti in Chicago.
