Chicago woman alleges that Oak Lawn resident defrauded her

CHICAGO — A Chicago woman is suing an Oak Lawn resident, identified as Candace Clark, alleging financial exploitation of an elderly person, fraudulent misrepresentation and breach of Illinois Real Estate License Act.

Darlene Simmons filed a complaint on Jan. 20 in Cook County Circuit Court against Clark, alleging the defendant deceived the plaintiff into providing her sums of money purported to be investments.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges she was defrauded in the amount of nearly $74,000. The plaintiff holds Clark responsible because the defendant allegedly defrauded the plaintiff several times to obtain monies from her, after initially gaining her trust by claiming interest in joining the Order of Eastern Star.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the the defendant for actual damages, court costs and any further relief this court grants. She is represented by Elise Diane Robie of Center for Disability & Elder Law in Chicago.
