Manor Care of Oak Lawn West accused of not taking proper steps for woman's care

CHICAGO — A deceased woman's family has filed a wrongful death claims against Manor Care of Oak Lawn West, alleging negligence in nursing home care.

Avalon Shackelford, as independent administrator of the estate of Yvonne Shackelford, filed a complaint on Jan. 23 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendant, alleging it failed to provide proper care to Yvonne Shackelford.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges Shackelford suffered from the development of pressure ulcers, which contributed to her death. The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible for allegedly failing to provide adequate supervision and assistance to Shackelford to minimize the risk of developing pressure ulcers.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount greater than $50,000 plus court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Jason Kellerman of Law Offices of Steven J. Malman & Associates, P.C. in Chicago.
