Family representative accuses Northwestern Memorial of malpractice in death

Medical malpractice 06

CHICAGO — A family representative is suing Northwestern Memorial, alleging negligence led to the death of a patient.

Louis Aranda, as executor of the estate of Vincent Ceralde, filed a complaint Feb. 7 in Cook County Circuit Court against Northwestern Memorial Hospital, alleging malpractice in failing to provide proper medical care to Ceralde.

According to the complaint, Ceralde, when he was a patient at Northwestern Memorial, suffered respiratory arrest that led to cardiac arrest, resulting in the deterioration of his health and his death Jan. 17, 2016. The plaintiff alleges Northwestern Memorial failed to properly monitor Ceralde after his lung transplant procedure for any respiratory abnormalities.

Aranda seeks judgment of more than $50,000. He is represented by attorney Joseph W. Balesteri of Power Rogers & Smith, LLP in Chicago.
