CHICAGO — A married couple are suing Johnson & Johnson and Walgreens for product liability and other claims, asserting the manufacturer and drug store retailer should be made to pay for making and selling baby powder that allegedly caused ovarian cancer.

Andrea Harris and Bart Harris filed a complaint on March 1 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Johnson & Johnson and related entities, and Walgreen Co. alleging that they manufactured and sold baby powder containing talcum powder, which the plaintiffs allege causes cancer.

According to the complaint the plaintiffs allege Andrea Harris experienced pain from having developed ovarian cancer caused by prolonged exposure to talcum powder. The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to warn the plaintiff about the hazards of prolonged exposure to talcum powder.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek compensatory damages greater than $50,000, economic damages, medical expenses, punitive and exemplary damages, interest, court costs and any further relief this court grants. They are represented by Robert A. Clifford and Shannon M. McNulty of Clifford Law Offices P.C. in Chicago.
