CHICAGO — A man is suing a hip replacement manufacturer, citing alleged design defect, insufficient measures taken to prevent injuries, negligence and product liability.

Michael Riportella filed a complaint on March 9 in Cook County Circuit Court against Depuy Orthopaedics Inc. and Premier Orthopaedic Sales Inc., alleging they designed and manufactured defective ASR implants.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges he experienced pain from having high concentrations of various metallic elements in his body due to the breakdown of his implant. The plaintiff holds Depuy Orthopaedics and Premier Orthopaedic Sales responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to make sure the ASR was reasonably safe to be used.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount that exceeds the jurisdictional limits of this court plus interest and court costs. He is represented by Peter J. Flowers of Meyers & Flowers LLC in Chicago.
