CHICAGO — A man is suing the city of Chicago and five police officers who allegedly threw the plaintiff to the ground, sprayed him with pepper spray and repeatedly punched him.

Shaquille Gillespie filed a lawsuit on March 8 in Cook County Circuit Court alleging the defendants physically assaulted him.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges he sustained physical injuries on March 28, 2013, from being physically battered and arrested after he ran from plainclothes police officers. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly assaulting and arresting the plaintiff without probable cause.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant for compensatory damages, court costs and any further relief this court grants. He is represented by Victor P. Henderson and Rebecca R. Kaiser of Henderson Parks LLC in Chicago.
