CHICAGO — The administrator for the estate of a deceased patient is suing Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center for allegedly taking insufficient measures to prevent an intravenous device from damaging and disfiguring her right arm and hand.

Constance Parker, independent administrator of the estate of Rachel Bell, filed a complaint on March 20 in Cook County Circuit Court alleging the defendant failed to provide Bell with proper medical care.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges Bell experienced pain after an intravenous device was inserted into her right arm and hand, which impeded blood flow to some of her nerves and muscles. The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible for allegedly failing to properly monitor the device and its effect on her right arm and hand.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount that exceeds $50,000 plus court costs. She is represented by Kent M. Lucaccioni, of Chicago.
