CHICAGO — The family of a deceased patient is suing Glenshire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and related entitites for allegedly failing to prevent the patient from contracting an antibiotic-resistant bacterial infection through his feeding tube.
Sharron Hayes, special administrator for the estate of Mozell Hayes, filed a lawsuit on March 16 in Cook County Circuit Court alleging the defendants failed to provide Mozell Hayes with proper medical care.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges Hayes died after contracting a methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, infection via his feeding tube. MRSA is resistant to many antibiotics. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to monitor the patient to prevent the infection.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000. She is represented by Michael T. Mertz and Molly L. Condon of Hurley McKenna & Mertz P.C. in Chicago.
