CHICAGO — A deceased patient's family is suing Advocate South Suburban Hospital and Advocate Medical Group, and others, for allegedly failing to diagnosis an antibiotic-resistant MRSA bacterial infection after the patient allegedly told the medical staff she had been exposed to the bacteria.

Theodore Collie, independent administrator of the estate of Jenny Collie-Morales, filed a lawsuit on March 16 in Cook County Circuit Court alleging the defendants failed to provide Collie-Morales with proper medical care.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges Collie-Morales was not timely diagnosed with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, also known as MRSA, a bacterial infection that is resistant to many antibiotics, which allegedly led to multiple organ failure and her eventual death. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to diagnose the patient and provide timely treatment.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000. He is represented by Joseph A. Power Jr. of Power Rogers & Smith LLP in Chicago.
