CHICAGO — A woman who claims she was injured when an engine on the airliner on which she was a passenger caught fire on the runway is suing G.E. Aviation Systems LLC, the Boeing Company and American Airlines Inc. for alleged product liability.

Flor Elizabeth Arroyo filed a lawsuit on March 21 in Cook County Circuit Court alleging the defendants manufactured or deployed a defective aircraft engine.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges she sustained physical injuries on Oct. 28, 2016, after the aircraft she was riding on suffered engine failure. She claims she had to evacuate the plane without assistance from airline staff. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly using a defective engine in their aircraft, which caused it to fail and injure their passengers, including the plaintiff.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000 plus court costs and other damages. She is represented by Michael S. Krzak of Clifford Law Offices P.C. in Chicago.
