CHICAGO — A customer is suing Kohl's Department Stores Inc. for allegedly obtaining his personal credit report without authorization.

Douglas Weiss filed a lawsuit on March 1 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois alleging the defendant accessed his personal credit report without his permission.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges he sustained damages in December 2016 from having his private financial information given to the defendant. The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible for allegedly reviewing his credit rating without permission and obtaining personal information about him.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual compensatory damages, statutory damages of $1,000, punitive damages, court costs and any further relief the court grants. He is represented by Larry P. Smith of Smithmarco P.C. in Chicago.
