Bed Bath & Beyond allegedly locked woman inside store

CHICAGO — A customer is suing Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. after store employees allegedly locked her inside the store after failing to inspect the premises before closing.

Maribel M. Aranda-Schmidt filed a lawsuit on March 30 in Cook County Circuit Court alleging the defendant failed to make sure the store was empty before closing.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges she sustained damages in December 2015 from being locked inside the store. The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible for allegedly failing to inspect the store for any potential customers before locking up and leaving.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount greater than $100,000 plus court costs. She is represented by James A. Payonk, Jr. P.C. in Orland Park.
