Spouse of deceased man claims doctors failed to diagnose brain condition that led to death

Medical malpractice 01

CHICAGO — A surviving spouse is suing a trio of doctors and their employers for allegedly failing to recognize issues with a CT scan that they claim eventually led to the man's death.

Nanette Melligan, the administrator of the estate of John Melligan, is suing Donatas Siliunas M.D., Elk Grove Radiology S.C., Gregory Gullo M.D., Jeffrey E. Chung M.D., Radiological Consultants of Woodstock Ltd., Alexian Brothers Medical Center and St. Alexius Medical Center, citing alleged insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries and negligence.

Nanette Melligan filed a complaint on April 7 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants alleging they failed to provide proper medical care to John Melligan.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges Melligan sustained serious physical injuries which caused the deterioration of his health, namely that the doctors in charge of his care failed to recognize an abscess in a CT scan, which ultimately led to the encephalopathy that killed him, the complaint claims. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to accurately interpret the CT scan results of John Melligan and provide additional consultation.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount greater than $50,000. She is represented by Thomas G. Siracusa of Power Rogers & Smith LLP in Chicago.
