Patient at Kindred Hospital developed severe sepsis due to improper care, suit alleges

Medical malpractice 09

CHICAGO — The administrator of an estate is suing Kindred Hospital/Chicago-Lakeshore, Kindred Healthcare Inc. and two of their doctors, citing alleged insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries and negligence.

Betty Woodson-Levey, as independent administrator of the estate of Clara Bender, filed a complaint on April 17 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants alleging the North Sheridan Road hospital and its staff failed to provide proper medical care to Clara Bender. The individuals named in the suit are John Venetos M.D. and Maher Al-Koubaytari M.D.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges Bender experienced pain from having severe sepsis which contributed to the deterioration of her health. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly improperly dislodged a tube in Bender's abdomen, causing an infection.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount greater than $50,000. She is represented by Patricia E. Bender in Chicago.
