CHICAGO — A McHenry County consumer is suing Creditor's Protection Service Inc., a debt collector, citing alleged misrepresentation in debt collection for attempting to collect a higher amount than owed.

Paul Levine filed a complaint on April 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against the collection agency, alleging that it used deceptive means to collect a debt from the plaintiff stemming from a medical bill.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, in 2015, he sustained financial damages due to the misrepresentation of the total amount he owed. The plaintiff holds Creditor's Protection Service responsible because it allegedly attempted to collect an incorrect amount from the plaintiff and did not correct the amount even after plaintiff had disputed it.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks statutory damages in the amount of $1,000, actual damages, interest, court costs and any further relief this court grants. He is represented by Russell S. Thompson IV of Thompson Consumer Law Group PLLC in Mesa, Arizona.
