CHICAGO — A pet food company has demanded $5 million from meat distributor Bailey Farms LLC, alleging in a class action lawsuit that Bailey Farms delivered contaminated meat, which forced the pet food maker to recall some of its products.

Evanger's Dog & Cat Food Co. Inc. filed a complaint on April 25 in Cook County Circuit Court against Bailey Farms alleging the Wisconsin company failed to deliver meat to the plaintiff in perfect condition.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges it later was forced to recall its product due to contamination. The plaintiff holds Bailey Farms responsible because it allegedly delivered a contaminated meat product to the plaintiff which caused damages to the plaintiff and its reputation.

The plaintiff seeks damages and punitive damages in the amount of $5 million, plus court costs and any further relief this court grants. They are represented by Gregory A. Bedell of Knabe, Kroning & Bedell in Chicago.
