Parents claim University of Chicago Medical failed to properly monitor infant during surgery

Medical malpractice 01

CHICAGO — Two parents are suing The University of Chicago Medical Center, alleging negligence during their infant's 2014 surgery caused his death.

Buhari Ibrahim and Suraiya Soma Yakubu filed a complaint on May 3 in Cook County Circuit Court, claiming the hospital failed to provide proper care to their son.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege their son sustained serious physical injuries during surgery in November 2014 which contributed to the deterioration of his health. The plaintiffs hold The University of Chicago Medical Center responsible because its staff allegedly failed to recognize the changes to the decedent's condition during surgery and address his blood pressure.

The plaintiffs seek judgment against the defendant in an amount that exceeds $50,000. They are represented by Michael P. Cogan and Miguel A. Ruiz of Cogan & Power P.C. in Chicago.
