CHICAGO — An individual is suing the United States of America, alleging negligence for having her Apple laptop given to someone else after an airport screening.

Grissobel Castro-Silva, of North Carolina, filed a complaint on April 18 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against the federal government alleging that Transportation Security Administration staff failed to return plaintiff's Apple computer to her after an X-ray screening at Midway International Airport.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, on Dec. 27, 2016, she was damaged as the result of losing her Apple computer. The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible because the staff allegedly gave plaintiff's Apple computer to another person after she went through the airport screening.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant for compensatory damages in the amount of $1,493.43, court costs, interest and any further relief this court grants. She is represented by James A. Payonk Jr. of James A. Payonk Jr. P.C. in Orland Park.
