Suit claims negligence by Advocate Health and Hospitals, Silver Cross Hospital

CHICAGO — A widow is suing Advocate Health and Hospitals Corporation, Silver Cross Hospital and Medical Centers and eight staff members, alleging negligence.

Suchitra Surapiboonchai, individually and as special administrator of the estate of Sukit Surapiboonchai, filed a complaint on May 5 in Cook County Circuit Court alleging the defendants failed to provide proper medical care to Sukit Surapiboonchai. The doctors named in the suit are Grant Chavin M.D., Matthew McCormick D.O. and Richard Shepard Pharm.D; the named nurses are Clarissa Downs, Danielle Daoud, Spring Noah, Diane Hensel and Jennifer Leak.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges Surapiboonchai sustained serious physical injuries after prostate surgery. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to instruct Sukit Surapiboonchai on the post-surgery chemotherapy process and the dangers of the chemotherapy being administered to him.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000 plus court costs. She is represented by Theodore Woerthwein, John Miller and Ashley Hanlon of Woerthwein & Miller in Chicago.
