Suit claims woman had stroke during surgery due to Franciscan Health's negligence

Medical malpractice 02

CHICAGO — A couple is suing Franciscan Health Chicago Heights, alleging negligence during surgery led to a woman's stroke.

Joan Jefferson and Jesse Jefferson filed a complaint on May 12 in Cook County Circuit Court alleging the hospital failed to provide proper medical care to Joan Jefferson.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege Jefferson sustained serious physical injuries including a stroke during surgery. The plaintiffs hold Franciscan Health responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to properly evaluate Jefferson's overall condition before proceeding with the surgery, leading to her stroke.

The plaintiffs seek judgment against the defendant in an amount greater than $50,000 plus court costs. They are represented by Stephen D. Phillips and Kurt R. Ensign of Phillips Law Offices in Chicago.
