Suit claims Advocate Medical, doctor failed to order follow-up tests to diagnose disease

Medical malpractice 02

CHICAGO — A couple is suing Thomas Kim M.C. and Advocate Medical Group, alleging the hospital and its doctor were negligent for failing to diagnose the husband's kidney disease.

Julio Zavala and Ramona Zavala filed a complaint on May 23 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants alleging they failed to provide proper medical care to Julio Zavala.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege Zavala's kidney disease was left untreated from 2012 to February 2016. The plaintiffs hold Kim and Advocate Medical Group responsible because they allegedly failed to order follow-up tests or refer the plaintiff to a nephrologist to determine if he had kidney disease.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than the jurisdictional limit of $50,000. They are represented by Thomas H. Murphy of Cogan & Power P.C. in Chicago.
