Berthold says Volvo violated its copyright regarding typeface

Copyright 10

CHICAGO — A Chicago company is suing Swedish car manufacturer Volvo AB and its North American entities, alleging copyright infringement.

Berthold L.L.C., Berthold Types Ltd. and Berthold Direct Corp. filed a complaint on May 18 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against the defendants alleging they used plaintiff's typeface and typeface software without permission.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege the defendants created the typeface Volvo Sans 2012 OT Pro Font Software, which was derived from the plaintiffs' typeface software under copyright.

The plaintiffs seek injunction against the defendants from further infringing plaintiffs' copyrights, general, special, actual and statutory damages, court costs, damages of $30,000 per day and any further relief this court grants. They are represented by Peter S. Lubin and Andrew C. Murphy of DiTommaso Lubin P.C. in Oakbrook Terrace.
