Suit claims Mayfield Care Center failed to prevent former patient's falls, pressure sores

Medical malpractice 01

CHICAGO — A woman is suing Mayfield Care Center for its alleged negligence in failing to address her family member's risk for falls and skin conditions.

Thyra Graves, as independent administrator of the estate of Willie Brooks Jr., filed a complaint on June 1 in Cook County Circuit Court alleging the nursing facility failed to provide proper medical care to Brooks.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges Brooks developed pressure ulcers and suffered falls which led to injuries, because the defendant allegedly failed to provide adequate supervision and assistance to Brooks to prevent the development of falls and pressure ulcers.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount greater than $50,000. She is represented by Matthew K. Henry and David M. Resis of The Law Offices of Steven J. Malman & Associates P.C. in Chicago.
