West Suburban Medical, staff allegedly failed to treat woman's tumor, leading to death

Medical malpractice 07

CHICAGO — A man is suing EPMG of Illinois LLC; VHS West Suburban Medical Center Inc.; Diversified Emergency Services LLC; and five members of staff, alleging an untreated medical condition led to his relative's death.

Dwayne Pettigrew, as independent administrator of the estate of Victoria Akins, filed a complaint on June 6 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants alleging they failed to provide proper medical care to Akins. Doctors and a nurse practitioner named as defendants were Ather Nizam M.D.; Rene Adrian M.D.; Jessica Levely Corcoran M.D.; Dattatrey Sambare M.D.; and Bridgette Epps APN.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that Akins suffered a perforated colon when an abdominal mass went untreated, which contributed to the deterioration of her overall health. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to properly diagnose Akins' condition and provide the necessary treatment.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000. He is represented by Brian K. Hetzer of Karlin, Fleisher & Falkenberg LLC in Chicago.
