Costco, Leider Horticultural Companies sued after woman pierces eye on metal stake on flower pot

CHICAGO — A couple is suing Costco Wholesale Corporation and the Leider Horticultural Companies Inc. for alleged negligence, liability and for allegedly taking insufficient measures to prevent injuries, after a woman lost sight in one eye on a metal stake on a flower pot.

Joan and Burton Grant filed a complaint on July 19 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging the defendants manufactured a product that has a defective metal stake on a flower pot.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege Joan Grant pierced her right eye on the stake, losing vision. The plaintiffs holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to warn their consumers about the sharpened metal stake found on their product.

The plaintiffs seek judgment against the defendant in an amount greater than $50,000 plus court costs. They are represented by James A. Bradley of Patrick F. Bradley Ltd. in Northbrook.
