CHICAGO — A man is suing the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois for alleged racial discrimination.
Seung-Whan Choi filed a complaint on July 24 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging the defendant discriminated against him and assigned him to less favorable positions.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he experienced racial discrimination and harassment during his employment at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and was allegedly fired from a tenure track position and forced to teach a statistics course allegedly because "Asians, especially Koreans, are very good at mathematics," according to the court filing.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks order the defendant to cease and desist, award backpay and future earnings to the plaintiff, court costs, compensatory, punitive damages, all other damages and any further relief this court grants.
