Cardiac Surgery Associates accused of inserting nickel-containing wires in man with nickel allergy

Medical malpractice 08

CHICAGO —  A couple is suing Cardiac Surgery Associates S.C., doctors Thomas J. Hinkamp and Vu T. Hoang and physician assistant Timothy J. Kinsey for not considering a man's allergy to nickel when using wires containing nickel during surgery.

Gregory Tricker and Margaret R. Tricker filed a complaint on July 28 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging the defendants failed to provide Gregory Tricker with proper medical care.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege Tricker developed an infection in his sternum when doctors inserted stainless steel wires containing nickel into him during surgery. The plaintiffs allege the defendants knew Tricker was allergic to nickel.

The plaintiffs seek judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000. They are represented by John W. Burnett of Cirignani Heller & Harman LLP in Chicago.
