Manorcare Health Services, others accused of failing to prevent patient from developing pressure ulcers

CHICAGO — An estate administrator is suing several healthcare providers for allegedly taking insufficient measures to prevent a patient from developing pressure ulcers. 

Manor Care of Elgin IL LLC, Manorcare Health Services Inc. Manorcare Health Services-Elgin, HCR Manorcare Health Services - Elgin, Citadel Care Center-Elgin, Citadel Care Center-Elgin LLC, Damen Healthcare Group LLC, Citadel Healthcare Management and Citadel Financial Services are listed as defendants in the suit.

Susan Long, special administrator of the estate of Madeline Kartel, filed a complaint on Aug. 9 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging the defendants failed to adequately supervise Karte to prevent her from developing decubitus ulcers.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants. She is represented by Michael T. Mertz and Molly L. Condon of Hurley McKenna & Mertz P.C. in Chicago.
